Have you ever met someone who you immediately knew was a Christian? They are a total stranger but within a few words, you can feel a connection. That is the work of the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus died on the cross, not only was He separated from the disciples but so was the Holy Spirit. Many people assume that followers of God had the Holy Spirit in Biblical times much like they do today. That is not the case.
Before Pentecost the Holy Spirit was only on a few people we read about in the scriptures. King Saul was given the Holy Spirit and God later removed it from him, King David, John the Baptist, and a handful of others.
Jesus of course was linked with the Spirit. When he was gone, so was the Spirit. In today’s passage we read, "And with that he (Jesus) breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit.” I can only imagine that it felt like being reunited with an old friend.
Remember today as you talk with God, or talk to another Christian that what links you together, the thing that makes all of this fit, is the power of the Holy Spirit.
