Giving and Treasures - Matthew 6:1-4, 19-24

Do you find it difficult to be around someone who enjoys the praises of others? Isn't it hard to spend much time with individuals who are needy, always craving attention and adoration? Humility is one area many struggle with, this writer included. But when we consistently allow our ego to take center stage we become overbearing.

Actors on a stage perform for the applause; they require approval for the exhibition they just put on. A hypocrite is defined as one who acts a part; puts on false appearances.

There is an old saying, “Don’t blow your own horn.” I suspect it may originate from scripture. Matthew 6:2 reads, "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth; they have received their reward in full.”  The Bible tells us if we receive our reward on earth, there isn't another waiting for us in Heaven.

It is God's praise and recognition we should strive for, not man's.  The word ego, is an acrostic for
Edging
Out
God.
