God Promises a Son -- Genesis 3:14-15

What do you think of snakes?  Even the name/word snakes has an unpleasant, hissing sound to it, don't you think?  I have to admit I have a real aversion to the slithering creatures.  They have always frightened me.  As a newly wed vacationing in the north woods of Wisconsin I came across a grass snake.  My husband thought it comical and proceeded to chase me with the reptile.  That may have been over 40 years ago, but I remember it as if it were yesterday.

After reading the scripture verses for today I went to the dictionary and looked up the meaning of the word, 'enmity'.   I can truly say I feel enmity for snakes.  Scripture says, "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers." (Genesis 3:15) Woman's first encounter with the snake was in the garden and to this day is a reminder of our sin.  It is also a reminder of God's mercy.

Following the fall of mankind to sin, God acknowledged sin declaring the punishment.  But also announced a deliverer who would crush the serpent's head.  "...he will crush your head." (Genesis 3:15)  God had a plan to make right our wrongs.  The Advent of a Savior was announced as early as in the Book of Genesis; the plan for salvation in place from the time of the first sin.
