I love to garden and anxiously wait for spring so I can take all the seedlings from the front picture window of my living room, and get them firmly planted in the soil outside. There are steps needed to make all this happen effectively
· First they need lots of direct sunlight
· Second is rich potting soil
· Third is water
The window will keep the seeds warm; the potting mixture will provide food and nutrients and the moisture will nourish growth of the root system. These things are necessary in this order. But, none of this will matter if I don’t tend to these shoots and give lots of care and time to their maturity.
The scripture for today focuses on Spiritual gifts and the order in which they are used. Only a few are gifted as Apostles. Second, Paul lists prophets; those who exhort, encourage and strengthen God’s people. Third are teachers, those who teach the truth of the Good News.
“And yet I will show you the most excellent way.” (1 Corinthians 12:30b)
The diversity of all the gifts makes for unity in God’s people, unity in the Body of Believers. The most important factor here is the reason apostles, prophets and teachers share their gifts, the reason you and I use our gifts--LOVE. Love must be the driving force behind our actions; love for Jesus and for one another. Without love it is all pointless. Love is the most excellent way.
