"Getting to know you, getting to know all about you.
Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me ..."
These are words to a song I used to sing as a child. It was from a favorite movie of mine, The King and I. I think I loved this movie because it was a precious love story, one that was doomed from the beginning, but fans of the story would always hold out hope for a different ending. A 'happy ever after' ending.
However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him— (1 Corinthians 2:9)
Often we would like to change the ending to a movie or favorite story, make it friendlier or provide a happy ending. As Christians, we know the end of the story, we know can look to the Bible to hear Good News. The Holy Spirit teaches us about God and Jesus. He instructs us as to how to behave; he tweaks our conscience when we need to rethink our actions. The Holy Spirit doesn't have to give a new ending to the story, it is already perfect and just what each of us needs to hear, but he does open our ears.
