John 3:1-15

Have you ever been afraid to do something you really wanted to do because you feared what everyone else might think?  Has fear, or perhaps pride, kept you from fulfilling a dream or goal because your friends might think you weird?

Nicodemus made an appointment to see Jesus and talk with Him.  Isn't it ironic he schedules a time to visit the Light during the nighttime. The Light of the world is willing to talk to Nicodemus in the cover of darkness to calm is fears. Nicodemus is afraid of what the other Pharisees will say and/or think if they knew he was talking with this scoundrel, Jesus.

"Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” (John 3:1-2)

Jesus told Nicodemus something that really made him question things all the more.  He told Nicodemus he had to be born again in order to enter the kingdom of God. “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again" (John 3:3)  Nicodemus wanted to know how this could be, how could he enter the womb a second time.

Jesus went on to teach Nicodemus about the Holy Spirit with these words: "Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit." (John 3:5)

We can tell from this Scripture teaching that the concept of the Holy Spirit is difficult to understand or grasp. As mere humans, without the wisdom the Holy Spirit imparts, we are powerless to "get it". Let's keep studying and reading and calling upon the Spirit to come to us every day.
