Life of Christ - Titus 2:9-15

At first, read my thoughts were mixed.  Verses nine and ten refers to slaves, as they were common in Paul's day.  So naturally I thought there is no message here for us to apply, but after praying about it God opened my eyes to the fact we are all slaves in our own time.  Slaves to many things of this world.

I find I often am bound to a certain lifestyle and if I feel it is threatened I lose hope.  What are some things you are a slave to; your job, your calendar, your flesh?  These words in Titus are mean to encourage all of us.  The slaves of Titus' day were instructed that the message of Jesus was for them as well as for their masters; salvation is for all.

We are also told the Good News is for us now.  Grace is a teacher as the scripture below implies.  When we accept Jesus and receive His grace we are empowered to change, to life more self-controlled.  Life will still be a struggle and there will be numerous temptations placed in our path.  But we have a blessed hope, to cling to, a reason to turn from godless living and practice living devoted to God.

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.  It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,"
(Titus 2:11-13)
