Luke 2:33-40

Parents everywhere dream about the future of their children, even before they are born.  These times of planning and preparing can be filled with trepidation and foreboding on the one hand and excitement and longing on the other.  For young couple just preparing to begin their family, many scenarios fill the conversations; most of which are filled with positive anticipation.

It is difficult to imagine what Joseph and Mary talked about when they realized the magnitude of their family possibilities.  Mary knew how special Jesus was, how vital He would be to the world.  But she also knew how special He was to her.  Mothers the world over can look to Mary and understand the depth of love she felt for her Child.

Luke 2:34-35 (NIV)
Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."

When Simeon spoke these words to Jesus' mother, can you think what might have gone through her mind?  The young mother knew who her Son was, but did she really understand?  I know who Jesus is, but do I really understand?  Do I grasp the immense possibilities and responsibilities that lay in front of me just because of Jesus?  I need to think on this today; I need to pray about what Simeon words to Mary and Joseph mean to me, to us, today.
