Psalm 132:3-5 (MSG)
"I'm not going home, and I'm not going to bed, I'm not going to sleep, not even take time to rest, Until I find a home for GOD, a house for the Strong God of Jacob."
David recalls just how much God took care of him during the years of struggle, during his season of fleeing for his life. This man also remembered how God led his people through the wilderness, residing in the Tabernacle. Now that he was King, David wanted to make a permanent dwelling for God.
I was struggling yesterday, to find the right words to put down here. I read this Psalm a number of times, trying to see what message to share, what application to point out, but my mind was a blank. Then, as often happens, the message was clear in the morning. Give God a place in your heart. Build a home for Him inside – where we can keep Him close each and every day, not just when trouble takes over.
By allowing God access to our lives every moment of every day, we don’t have to go looking for Him when we are desperate. By constructing a heart that is filled with love, we invite Him to dwell close by. By talking things over with God during our designated quiet time each day we are establishing a home for Him.
David and God had a relationship that was very unique. David was human and thus sinful, but he was quick to admit his wrongdoing and turn to God for forgiveness. He was a man after God’s own heart because he opened his own heart for God to live in. We can do the same.
