The Story - Chapter 17 - Lamentations 1-3,5

Lamentations 2:17 (NIV)
"The LORD has done what he planned; he has fulfilled his word, which he decreed long ago. He has overthrown you without pity, he has let the enemy gloat over you, he has exalted the horn of your foes."

Some of the words in today's lesson are difficult to read.  Not that it should come as any surprise to us.  God has been warning the people for years.  He has allowed them to do what they wanted to do and then He forgave and wept over their next disobedient acts.  He was honest when He said His patience would not go on indefinitely.  God was faithful and repeatedly provided for their needs; just as He provides for ours.

He sent prophets who warned the people as well, they begged and pleaded and prayed for the people, but they were stiff-necked and deaf to truth.  Now, he has fulfilled his word, it time for consequences and they are big.  But, we serve such a loving God who always wants us to turn to Him so He continues to open the door to His kingdom and provide Words of hope. 

Lamentations 3:21-24 (NIV)
"Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him." 

There, I feel better, do you?  So much comfort in these words.  God is still promising the faithful that He is still in charge, He is still on the throne and those who believe and act on their faith have reason to hope.  When our world is falling apart and we feel helpless, it is wise to remember we are never hopeless.
