The Story - Chapter 18 - Daniel 2

I knew this week was going to be fun.  I hope you read Chapter 2 of Daniel today, and gave it some thought.  There are a number of lessons within these 49 verses for each of us to take in.  An obvious course to take today would be to discuss dreams.  We all experience them and at times might feel God is even speaking to us in our dreams.  But let's consider prayer as the topic today.

Daniel 2:14 (NIV)
"When Arioch, the commander of the king's guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact."

Daniel was a faithful prayer.  He turned to God for everything he needed and God faithfully answered Daniel's prayers.  So, when things were in an up-roar, when the king was demanding unreasonable feats from his wise men, and they couldn't comply, he ordered all of them to be killed.  Then, Daniel, with wisdom and tact acted. (That is a lesson in itself.)

His first thought was to get with his friends and pray. "He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon." (Daniel 2:18)

This second chapter in Daniel reveals just how valuable prayer is.  When faced with life and death situations prayer is the answer.  When tragedy looms, when ruin is around the corner, when hearts are breaking and life is unbearable...prayer is the answer.

Stop right now and consider how much you need help and guidance this day. Is there something that is looming in the future that you cannot stop agonizing over? Are you feeling overwhelmed, depressed, and sick with worry? Pray, get on your knees and plead with the God who rescued Daniel. He will rescue you also.
