I am remembering Esther's conversation (via her servant) with her uncle Mordecai. and the instruction she gave to pray and fast for three days, and to ask all the Jews in Susa to do the same. She made it clear she was ready to die for the cause.
Esther 7:3 (NIV)
"Then Queen Esther answered, "If I have found favor with you, O king, and if it pleases your majesty, grant me my life--this is my petition. And spare my people--this is my request."
What appears first to be manipulation, is in fact maneuvering. God was answering prayers, honoring the fasting and petitions that were being offered up. God was guiding her moves, inspiring her words, and answering her prayers. The One True God was maneuvering His servant, Esther, into position; preparing her for the next step. Ever so carefully and respectfully she approached her husband the King and revealed truth.
Esther 7:6 (NIV)
"Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this vile Haman." Then Haman was terrified before the king and queen."
There, she said it out loud. The King now knows her secret. His reactions to all of this indicate to me that he loved his wife; he had feelings for her and was now going to defend her life. The lesson in this chapter is to pray first. When there is a hopeless situation, turn to the One who is Hope. When our next move isn't clear or seems too dangerous to make, ask others to pray with and for you.
