I have read about some bad guys in my day, but Haman is right up there with the worst. How does someone sleep at night with such a cold, hard heart? How is it that some people don't appear to have a conscience; their actions don't phase them in the least.
It is obvious from these chapters so far that this evil man thinks very highly of himself. So much so that he mistakes something the king voices, as being all about him.
Esther 6:6 (NIV) "When Haman
entered, the king asked him, "What should be done for the man the king delights
to honor?" Now
Haman thought to himself, "Who is there that the king would rather honor than
me?"
There is satisfaction for the reader who knows the rest of the story, because we know the king is referring to Mordecai as the one he wants to honor and reward. Haman is going to have a very rude awakening soon.
The Book of Esther doesn't mention God by name, but it is evident He is with His people. The first 4 chapters were setting the scene for us, the two chapters for today's reading has things falling into place for Mordecai and Esther.
Has anything like this ever happened to you? Has pride allowed a misconception to result in embarrassment, maybe even finding yourself on the outside looking in? The Good News is God is with us, even when we allow our pride to get in the way. God is moving and loving us through all phases of our spiritual feasts and famines; always providing answers to our questions. We only have to listen, be still and listen.
