Are you finding the transition from Old Testament reading to the New Testament as difficult as I? We have been immersed in the familiar stories from our childhood, but able to see them differently because of the chronological presentation.
As soon as we leave Malachi we find ourselves celebrating the birth of our Savior. We have spent so much time learning of all the kings - good and bad, the prophets who tried to point the people back to God, and the struggles God's people faced every day, that it is difficult to switch gears like this.
I am interested to learn what was going on in history during the 400 year silence of God. I am not much of an historian but find I now want to know more. The Story has whetted my appetite for more knowledge and information about God's people. Don't misunderstand; I am very excited to be digging deeper into the life of Christ and His followers. I can't wait to learn all there is about this part of Christian history. I want to discern my place in this scene too.
We are in to the Good News portion of scripture and we can relate easier with the characters we know so well, like Paul, the Disciples, Mary, Elizabeth, and John the Baptist. Let's dig in together. Perhaps you have a small group you are studying with...great. If not, find someone you can discuss with, someone who can help you find your place in God's Story.
Luke 1:11-15 (NIV)
"When Zechariah saw him,
he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your
prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to
give him the name John. He will be
a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight
of the Lord.
