“Why Am I here?” In Acts, 1 Jesus is taken into heaven after appearing to his disciples numerous times over a forty day period. During His final visit, Jesus revealed to his disciples the most important message of all time, and they witnessed the most spectacular sight ever experienced! Can you imagine watching Jesus being taken up into the heavens right before your eyes?
Before He ascended, Jesus shared that the disciples would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. He was at that time, delivering the “Great Commission.” Their charge was to bring the news of the Lord to all the world. He told them to “witness in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Once Jesus was out of sight, the disciples stared up into the sky as any of us would, in awe. Then two men in white appeared next to the disciples and questioned why they were looking into the sky. They were as much as saying, “Jesus just told you what you are to do. Get busy guys. God’s work is before you”
The disciples then set out on an incredible adventure; A journey of purpose far more important than they could have possibly known. Like a good folk tale, “The Story” has been shared again and again by those who understand the eternal impact, and wish to bring others into the Kingdom of Heaven eternally. We are now on the Commission Committee. Look around to see the men in white. They are here to remind us of our purpose as Christ followers. “Why am I here?” We know why. We are called to allow God to work through us. That is our purpose.
