DOOMSDAY PREP
Are you a planner, someone who works best when working ahead of the clock or the calendar? Some of us need to be ready for whatever tomorrow might bring. I have a neighbor who stockpiles water and canned goods. They don't know what tomorrow will bring but they plan for the worst and hope for the best.
There is lots of talk these days about doomsday preppers. TV programs and news casters are enthralled by this idea of being ready for tragedy. While this sounds like a brilliant plan and one any wise person should check into, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Their life's goal is to outsmart the future, to be so prepared as to survive the worst situation imaginable. While some of this makes perfect sense, most does not.
Luke 12:40 (NIV)
You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
How do we adequately prepare for tomorrow when we have no idea what tomorrow will bring? It is one thing to have extra water on hand for an emergency situation; to have the closet stocked with amplE supplies of canned goods and toilet paper for those times when the grocery store shelves are bare; but to think it more important to prepare for physical hardships and ignore the Spiritual, is not wise.
Jesus is very clear when He tells His followers to be ready. There are a number of places in Scripture we can read His words of warning. "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
In my
Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am
going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:1-3)
When I have my ducks in a row, when I am prepared for tomorrow, I have a sense of peace and contentment. Knowing that I am ready to see Jesus face to face gives peace, but I cannot stop there. Today is the day to share that Good News with others. I do not consider myself a doomsday prepper, but on second thought maybe I am.
