Waiting is not one of my gifts. Once a decision has been made, I am ready to move forward and get the job done. Patience is not one of my virtues, but I know better than to pray for it. The folks Peter was encountering were not impatient, but they were trying to challenge the teaching of Jesus and manipulate His words. Peter responded with clarity and love.
2 Peter 3:8-9 (NIV)
But do
not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand
years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand
slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to
come to repentance.
Jesus will return someday soon. He loves us so much that He is giving us daily opportunities to reach our neighbor with His Good News. He loves us so much that He gives all those who do not yet know Him, a chance to repent and turn to Him. God's timing is so different from ours. He sees the 'big picture' and He understands the concept of time. He is not slow...He is patient.
