Psalm 37
What’s on your wish list? Here are some of the things that I would include. I would like to have more hair on my head and less weight on my body. I would like to make enough money and have a job so that I could travel wherever I wanted. I would like a beautiful house in the mountains or on the beach.
What does the world tell us that we need to be successful? Make lots of money, look good, dress sharp, stay in shape, look young, own lots of things and have fun whatever the cost.
The world has a way of getting to us. Like the frog in the kettle slowly boiling, it can happen slowly over time so that we don’t even realize it. It is easy for our wish list to be cluttered with trusting the things of this world rather than trusting the Lord.
David wrote in this Psalm:
- Trust in the Lord
- Take delight in the Lord
- Commit your way to the Lord
- Be still in the Lord
These are alternatives to trusting in the world. Each day we have a choice to make.
The land of Canaan was an inheritance for the Israelites based on their Covenant with God. Our inheritance is salvation in Christ, but it is much more than that. We have the Holy Spirit who empowers us daily and our Father in Heaven who loves us unconditionally and is with us always.
Therefore, let us dwell in His land where He lives. Let us trust in the Lord and not the world around us.
What’s on your wish list? The final item on mine is that I would like for my Heavenly Father to say to me on that day when I stand before Him, "Well done my good and faithful servant. Well done".
