Poised for a Purpose

Acts 16:10 (NIV)
After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

Verse 10 helps to put today's reading in context, setting the stage. The Holy Spirit had prevented Paul from preaching in Asia, then Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia begging him to come to Macedonia and help them. Paul went there, and that is where he met Lydia.

Acts 16:14 (NIV)  One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.

Paul was led to Macedonia by the Holy Spirit, so we can be certain there was a reason behind the move; a big plan in the making. There was purpose behind the Spirit's leading.  Paul's obedience to this leading would be a blessing to many. Lydia heard and believed the message of Jesus and embraced salvation. Her family was baptized with her. There began the spread of Christianity on the continent of Europe.

What happens when the Lord opens our heart? The Lord opened Lydia's heart to hear His word. He had a plan to use this influential woman to further His purpose.

Is there a special plan waiting for you to open up to? Is there some purpose God has planned for your future? For mine? When God opens hearts change happens. We find ourselves poised for something big. When God opens a heart it must mean that it was closed before. I know from personal experience, a closed heart is cold and lonely. An opened heart, now that is a different story. God can work with that, and He will.

Acts 16:11-15
