Fight the Good Fight

Our lives are filled with compromise and concession.  Just when we should confront, we back off and concede. Compromise can stop a fight, but what if something is worth fighting for? It is easier sometimes to just concede defeat than to demand victory.

Luke 9:25 (MSG)
What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you?

Life can be very difficult and facing yet another obstacle can threaten our very sanity. Still, when something is worth fighting for isn't it worth the pain and the rejection we might encounter?  Jesus was asking His followers this question as He was preparing for the road ahead of Him.

At this point Jesus could have walked away from it all and saved Himself from a cruel and pain-filled death. He had the power to do this, but He didn't.  We too have the power to walk away, to turn our backs whatever it is that we are called to, but -  What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you?

Is there a battle in your life?  There is usually one going on in mine.  Seldom am I able to sit down with my Bible, journal and cup of coffee and feel as though all is right with my world.  If I don't have a struggle of my own to bring to the Throne, there is a family member or close friend or co-worker who needs God's help and mercy.

As we prepare to enter Holy Week, let's stay real close to God.  Let's be on the lookout for opportunity to bring glory to His name and remember, nothing material can compensate for the loss of eternal life.

Luke 9:18-27
