The Servant's Table

During the VietNam war era, I was not able to serve as a military nurse as my heart longed to.  My young family was first priority.   At Christmas time I look forward to serving with The Salvation Army as a bell-ringer. It’s good to be enlisted in a service of love and caring.
The main character in Genesis 24 is Abraham’s faithful servant Eliezer.  He was a heat-seeking missile on mission to find a wife for his master’s son Isaac.  He had made a promise, a binding oath that he would remain faithful to the purpose which Abraham had commissioned him.  He had been given the necessary credentials for Isaac’s wife.  Everything Abraham had was at his disposal to equip him to accomplish his mission.
Eliezer prayed.  He boldly asked for a direct sign.  Then he watched and waited, leaving the ultimate match-making to God.  He didn’t over-ponder what he should do, size up the logistics of the job or seek the opinion of others.  The prospect of seeing his master’s wish accomplished was too exciting for him to be delayed.  When Eliezer saw Rebekah and she fulfilled the specifications of his requested sign, he ran to meet her!
We are bond servants in the same way as Eliezer when first we begin to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. Commitment is a non-negotiable quality of a faithful servant of the Lord.  God has equipped us with His Word, His Holy Spirit, and with the assurance we will be given what we ask in His name, according to His will.
Our personal and corporate mission is to recruit, enlist and love others beyond our immediate sphere of influence and comfort, to make disciples, (soldiers) committed to service of our Lord and master Jesus Christ.
What branch of service are you in?
We are climbing Jacob’s ladder,
Soldiers of the cross -

Every round goes higher, higher,
Soldiers of the cross -

Sinner, do you love my Jesus?
Soldiers of the cross -

If you love Him, why not serve Him?
Soldiers of the cross –
