Restore us, God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.
Return to us, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see!
We know the difficult situations King David encountered during his reign (and before) which caused him to write such heartfelt pleas to His God. I can imagine you and I experience similar times which try our spirits and fill us with pain. I have been known to ask, "How much longer, LORD?" You too?
Every time another act of violence erupts in our world, some so near to home, we fearfully raise our eyes to the heavens with questions and with sadness. It is times like this when we are helpless, but not hopeless.
When we are at our weakest, God is strong. We can lift our eyes to the heavens and pray, "Restore us, God Almighty." When uncertainty and injustice surround, we can lift our eyes and our hands to the heavens and shout, "Look down from heaven and see!" We will be heard; our prayers are not in vain.
When we are powerless, God is powerful. When we are anxious and new emotions fill us with dread, God is sovereign. We can cry out, "Revive us!" And He will.
If this all sounds so simple, it is. Simple, but not easy. If faith and trust we easy, we wouldn't need grace.
"Restore us, Lord God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved." (Psalm 80:7,19)
Psalm 80:7-19
