6 When Jesus saw him lying
there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked
him, “Do you
want to get well?”
7 “Sir,”
the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is
stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
-John 5:6-7
Do you want to get well? That was the question Jesus asked. The answer
to illness and disease was standing in front of this broken man asking if he
wanted healing. Without answering him
directly, the man explains how he has tried to receive curing continuously, with
no success.
Jesus immediately heals him and tells him to
take up his mat and go home. In an
instant. 38 years of suffering, gone.
With a simply question, the answer comes.
Let me ask you, “Do you want to get well?” What suffering are you enduring? It may or may not be a physical illness or
disease. Perhaps you suffer from
depression, anxiety, loneliness, addiction, fear, anger, shame, guilt,
hopelessness or anything else.
The
answer is standing in front of you waiting for you to pour out your heart to
him. Jesus still heals today. He is still able to tell you to, “Take up
your mat and go home.”
