God’s choice of foolish things

December 29
Scripture Reading
Read 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 and reflect on the passage.

No one minds a grandma posting pictures of her sweet grandchildren (except for maybe teenage grandchildren) or a friend asking for prayers during a tough time, but it seems like social media has become a way for people to boast about their accomplishments and shame those they deem uneducated, weak, or despised.

We need to keep in mind it was these very people God chose to fulfill his plans. He chose the lowly to inherit the earth.

The thought of God taking selfies during creation makes me laugh—or should I say, “lol.” Here’s one of him standing on the beach, waves crashing in the background. Here’s one of him with winged birds flying overhead. And my favorite: God with Adam and Eve throwing peace signs. I imagine the hashtag #goodverygood.

Questions
1.      We know this is silly. God wouldn’t boast this way, so why should we?
2.      Why do we seek an audience of a thousand strangers, when it’s Him alone we need?

Prayer
Lord, it’s because of You, we are in Christ and have been redeemed. Thank You for giving us everything we need. Help us look to You as an example of true humility. Remind us to lead lives that are pleasing to You regardless of what the outside world says. It’s okay to be weak because You are our strength. You are our focus. Make us instruments in your great plan. Amen.
