The Spirit in us

Ephesians 1:15-19 (NIV)
"For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength..."

I love to watch ice dancing competitions. The grace and ease with which the athletes glide across the glassy surface is stunning. Hours and hours of practice and tears and sacrifice have gone into their performances. The unfortunate fact is that only one couple can take away the prize. Only on partnership ends up in the winner's circle. Add to that the fact that the limelight only lasts for the moment. All too soon the glory and victory fades to become but a memory.

Oh, can you imagine being recognized for your faith in Jesus and your love of other believers; so much so that others notice and acknowledge this gift in prayers of thanksgiving for you. That is what is happening in Ephesus at this time. Paul is praising and thanking God who sent His Son for our salvation. He is praising and thanking God for the faithful believers who have embraced their salvation and now cling to that truth.

Christianity is our calling, following Jesus and putting all trust and hope in Him is our calling. Our testimony is part of our calling. When our past darkness and pain collides with our present faith and light, there is much to celebrate. Not just for the moment when we stand on a podium and receive a medal, but for eternity when we sit at the feet of Jesus and bask in the Glory of the Father forever and ever.
