A Fair Fight?
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
Paul uses strong military language to warn the Corinthian Church that, indeed, they are fighting a battle: "we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds (v. 3b-4)." I will admit, that I flinch when I hear language like that in scripture: isn't God all-loving, all-kind, and doesn't he hate war?
Yes, he does, but he also warns us that our battle is often not a physical one: it is spiritual, and the Evil One doesn't care if it is a fair fight - he is in it to steal us away from the Father's loving arms.
So how do we fight against this evil? Paul tells us that we"take every thought captive to obey Christ, (v. 5b)." How do I make my thoughts 'captive to Christ?'
-immerse yourself in His word. (The Daily Bible Blast is an excellent place to start!)
-worship with other Christians regularly
-find a small group who will hold you accountable
-pray for others, for yourself, for God's kingdom to come
-serve the Body of Christ
-share the Good News with friends, coworkers, family
The Psalmist said it well, a long time ago (Psalm 119:105) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Keep that light in good working order! The only way to 'take every thought captive to obey Christ' is to KNOW his word.
Yes, Lord, we are fighting a battle that is often an unseen battle. The forces of evil want us to drift from you and your word. Help me to spend time DAILY in your word, to make my thoughts your thoughts, and to glorify you. Amen.
