For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Okay, you are going to think I am weird, if you don't already. The first thing I thought of when I read this text in the English Standard Version was superheros. It must be the words 'cosmic powers', that brought me here. I looked up the word, cosmic - of or relating to the cosmos, the extraterrestrial vastness, or the universe in contrast to the earth alone.
But, isn't this interesting? In this ESV reading, the cosmic powers over this present darkness is referred to as something to be wrestled with. While learning about spiritual warfare, we come face to face with the present darkness. There is so much in our world today that is dark and point to spiritual forces of evil. If you are a fan of superhero stories, you should love the Bible.
Ephesians 6:18 (ESV)
"...praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints..."
The great news is we have tools to combat these forces, we have behaviors we can engage which will make us aware of potential evil.
