READ: Matthew 8:23-27
If the disciples thought following Jesus meant smooth sailing, they got a rude awakening on this night, for following Jesus meant jeopardizing their lives in a furious storm!
Many of us face life’s trials with a similar sense of betrayal and panic. “It isn’t supposed to be like this!” we cry. “Don’t you care about me, Jesus?”
He wakes. “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”
Pause. Right here. In the midst of the storm.
Do you not see what Jesus offers you?
I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich. (Rev 3:18)
These trials have come so that your faith, of greater worth than gold … may be proved genuine. (1 Pet 1:7)
If anyone builds on the foundation of Christ using gold … their work will be shown for what it is … Fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. (1 Cor 3:12-14)
Your faith in times of trial is gold, my friends! Trust him in the storms of life. You will earn eternal rewards, and the result will be praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed, for in the end he is who he says he is. As it was written long ago,
The seas have lifted up, Lord,
The seas have lifted up their voice;
The seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
Mightier than the breakers of the sea—
The Lord on high is mighty. (Ps 93:3-4)
