I witnessed a powerful intercession of the Holy Spirit as I stood at the bedside of a dying patient. A visitor sat at his bedside reading scripture. Suddenly he was keeling at this bedside speaking in a dialect unknown to me. As I observed the agonal heart rhythm on the over-bed monitor a powerful wind blew through the small hospital room. This much I knew - the Holy Spirit had been powerfully present.
We
often don’t know what to say, what to ask when we pray for ourselves and for
others. When we belong to Christ, His Spirit within intercedes for us through
wordless groans (Romans 8:26) helping us articulate our deepest needs. Through
the power and intercession of the Spirit we can come to Him with every need,
assured that He understands and receives us with love.
His Spirit within us prays for us -
While Jesus is praying for us in heaven, the Holy Spirit is
praying for us in our hearts. He intercedes for us according to the will
of God. Romans 8:27
He
teaches us –
The Holy Spirit is the
agent that carries us to the Spirit of the Father and of the Son, taking us
into the fellowship of the Godhead. There He teaches us the will of the
Father, shows us the love of the Son, and enables us to feel His own groanings. Romans 8:9
He helps us –
Along with praying for us,
the Holy Spirit helps us bear our trials. Intercession is coming along side of us in concert with praying for us.
He takes our prayers to God –
He intercedes for us, expressing to the Father what we cannot during
times of sorrow, illness, confusion and fear.
"Nothing lies beyond the reach of prayer except that which is outside the will Gog." (Phillips Brooks)
“Holy Spirit come and fill this place. Bring us healing with your warm
embrace. Show your power, make your presence known. Holy Spirit come fill this
place.” (Cece Wyans)
