Working with Youth for Christ as a young teen with my “red YFC Bible” in
hand, I grew stronger in faith and courage to share the Word. As a high school senior I was homeroom chaplain one year prior to the Supreme Court
ruling prohibiting scripture reading and prayer in public schools. My sister
and I were taught the Word by our mother Lois and encouraged in the faith by our
father. We did the same for our children and they for theirs. The Word of God
is powerful, Hebrews 4:12 and faith is contagious. (Parents and Grandparents persevere!)
Paul left young
Timothy in Macedonia and Corinth to implement his ground work for the newly
planted churches. Timothy was challenged by things beyond his control, other
than age. For that time he was cosidered bi-racial, born of a
Jewish mother and a Greek father. He had health issues, and he wasn’t Paul - (well-studied
in Hebrew and Roman law.) However, Timothy had been schooled in the faith, and Paul
reminded him, “I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which
dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded
is in you also.” 2 Timothy 1:5
God’s call for Christian soldiers has no age, gender or ethnicity prejudice
or requirements. Paul knew Timothy had a heart
for God, -- that this alone would
command authority!
“Watch your life and
doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both
yourself and your hearers.” 1 Timothy 4:16
