My
studies of anatomy and physiology combined with years of nursing experience impressed
on me forever that our physical bodies are a technical masterpiece of God, each
one of us unique in all creation.
“For
you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am
fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very
well.” Psalm 139:13-14.
Two trees stood in
the Garden; one providing intimacy with God in paradise, and the other with
forbidden fruit of knowledge that alienated man and woman from God. The choice
to eat that fruit was fatal to us all – a death sentence commuted by God’s
grace and mercy.
Disobedience has dire
consequences. It always keeps us from God’s best. So that we might live without
shame, He sent a perfect sinless Lamb whose blood offering covered and clothed
us in righteousness, (so that we may live again, and forever with God in the
Garden.) He made our bodies presentable at
great cost!
“Therefore, I urge
you brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as a
living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper
worship.” Romans 12:1.
Lord, please help me
remember that I am “fearfully and wonderfully made.” You will keep my body
worthy as your dwelling place as I choose to care for it, to honor it and to honor You."
