The Conclusion of the Matter
Ecclesiastes 12:9-11 |
9 Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.10 The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.
11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one shepherd.
Did you ever stop to consider that before God inspired men like Solomon to record His truths, people depended on first and second hand experiences with prophets and their followers? How fortunate we are to have the Bible.
God teaches us through creation, history and experience but He primarily teaches us through His word. He is the Shepherd who inspired men to record His word and whose word inspires His people. We have been blessed to live in a time and a place where we are free to worship and to openly share God’s word.
His wisdom is like a goad or a nail. Like a cattle prod used by the farmer to send his herd in the right direction, God's word is given to guide His people. Like a nail used to hold material together in one place, scripture assembles His truth into messages carefully considered to be upright and true.
So, whenever we are making decisions or attempting to discern how to live our life, we can refer to God’s word. Nobody does the will of God by breaking the laws or principles of God. We have been given the Holy Bible where the presence and the power of Almighty God is shared with us.
