Psalm 127:1a
Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.
Today's Bible Blast is really short: we're looking at the first half of verse one in Psalm 127. Eleven words. I told my husband that this is a hard assignment - such a short section of scripture. He said, 'that's a great verse.'
He's right. Eleven words that pack a punch. Do you remember that children's son "The Wise Man Built His House Upon a Rock?" Our kids loved the motions to that song, especially 'and the foolish man's house went splat.' Fun to say, fun to act out. But a deeper meaning is underneath the singsong verses.
We all know that a strong foundation is key to a well-built home. So what does a house that the Lord builds look like?
1. The focus is on bringing glory to him, not to ourselves.
2. The foundation is built on scripture - daily time in the word. (Ephesians 6:11-20)
3. The results are fruit of the spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self control (Galatians 5:22-23)
So take a look at your house. Who is building it? Are you using the best materials, God's word, worship, fellowship with others?
Lord, help me to build a house that brings glory to you. I want to be like the wise man, not the foolish man, but often I stumble. Help me to remember that the only thing that will last is that which bless and honor. Amen.
