Pray Continually (Diane Ward)
A long-time friend has been
with me the past few days. Often on her cell phone, I asked if she was “Google
searching” or shopping.” With a happy smile she said, “I’m staying in close touch
with my family while away from them.” That made me smile too remembering frequent
texts and phone calls with my son.
The happiest people I know
are those who have an intimate relationship with the Lord, those who have continual
dialogue with him. He wants to be in relationship with his children, to be the
most important person in our lives-to walk and talk alongside of us.
I doubt Paul meant us to be
sequestered in continual prayer as monastics who have chosen societal isolation
as a commitment to prolonged ongoing prayer. What Paul set out in his letter to the Thessalonians was simple and achievable. “Rejoice
always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Today I rejoice for God’s many
gifts, (especially for Jesus!) I rejoice for my family, for genuine friendships.
Today I will talk with Him often in prayer. By his grace and mercy, today and
every day for the rest of my life I will thank him in good times and hard
times, happy times and sorrowful times.
“I love you Lord and I lift
my voice to worship You, oh my soul rejoice! Take joy my King in what you hear,
let it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.”
