Read: Deuteronomy 33:26-29
People have always had a fascination with the last words of
the dying. We may be listening for words of forgiveness, a final piece of
wisdom and advice, or in hopes of discovering a long-lost treasure.
Today’s
reading is part of the last words of Moses. Listening to God’s call, Moses freed
the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and lead them for 40 years in the
wilderness as they sought out the Promised Land.
At first
glance it may seem like a bit of an obscure passage. But in his last moments, Moses uses his final breathes to speak to his people, to point these poor,
weary, 40-year wandering pilgrims back to the rarest, most precious and priceless
treasure of all.
There is
no God like our God!
“There is
no one like the God of Jeshurun!”
Jeshurun
was an affectionate name for Israel that meant “Upright One", a name that
described her ideal character. Despite Israel's failings, although they had turned away from their God time and time
again, he uses this affectionate name for them.
He is the
Sovereign God who rides across the heavens!
He does
not provide you temporary relief but is an Eternal Refuge. He holds you in His everlasting arms.
Unlike
the prosperity of the world where moth and rust can destroy, and thieves can
break in and steal, the abundant provisions He provides can NEVER be taken away.
Indeed, there
is none like our God! He is the rarest
and most precious treasure of all.
But what
is more, there is no one like YOU either, my friend! Your story is God’s story unfolding in your
life. You are His precious treasure, the
one He wants to spend eternity with. Despite
your failures and wanderings, He calls you His own, and spent His life blood to
rescue you.
Put your
name in this sentence,
“Blessed
are you, ___________________! Who is
like you, a person saved by the Lord!"
