For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts (v. 6). For me, the key word here is his… his light. Although the well-known verse from Matthew 5:16 says: In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven, it’s important to point out that we are not the light. God is the light and we are called to convey it on his behalf. As such, we are not the ones in control. We are not the ones with power. God is, has and always will be the powerful light of the world. The role we play is that our lives are to be testaments to this power. We have been given a treasure in Jesus and we are to use our ordinariness to promote HIS extraordinariness. We are couriers, using our lives to deliver the gift of Jesus.
I like the image of being part of God’s supply chain. What if, instead of driving a truck with US Mail (or Amazon) written on the side, it simply read GOD. Wouldn’t it be exciting to deliver, and in return, get, a package from Him?! And you know what, I wouldn’t mind if someone stole it right off the porch. There’s more than enough to go around. Take it, open it, try it out - I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what’s inside.
So Father, sign me up to deliver the light of your gospel. And may my compensation come in the form of everlasting life with you. Amen
