I have been called out by the Lord to tell
the people of his great love and grace for I was rescued from my sins and showered with His blessings.
Exodus 19:1-8 |
I ask her why she does not
have faith. She answers that her husband grew up in a religious family
and that her in-laws are in their 80’s and have never had alcohol or
caffeine. In fact, the Starbucks she is drinking would be a sin to them.
Her husband became a doctor and so he now accepts science over religion. Her
sister-in-law is a hypocrite who attends church on Sundays but gets drunk
whenever she goes out. And she personally thinks that churches
talk too much about homosexuality as a sin and continue to stalk her after she signs the pew book.
She
doesn’t understand the Trinity and why there is a God who would send himself as Jesus
to earth to die as a sacrifice to please Himself. It makes no sense. Why
do we need to sacrifice to God, anyway? And mostly, she suspects it is not
right to believe in God to avoid being wrong and going to Hell if it is real.

Oh, how I
want her to know that there is no checklist that makes one a child of
God. His family shares vision, values and unique truths. We no longer give ourselves over to fear! We freely admit, accept and allow God to be the One who guides and cares for us, and we simply want to be holy because God is Holy. How can I help my new friend comprehend this gift?
For God
will bring justice to this world and until He does, we have the distinction of
being His treasured possession reflecting His grace and radical love. How sweet it would be if every person would declare, “We will do everything the Lord
has said!”
