Be Strong and Courageous

June 8, 2020

1 Chronicles 28:19-21
This is an especially important moment in the history of Israel. David has received plans for the Temple from God. But Solomon will carry out the building. David says to his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work.” Because God had commanded it, David was confident that God would help Solomon to see it through, but Solomon still had a lot of work to do.

GPS—God Please Steer
by Nancy Gleeson

Most people say that they would want to be young again only if they could still know what they know now. So much wisdom is gained through the years and we all hope to leave a legacy. Like us, at the end of his life, David wanted to pass onto Solomon good counsel and guidance.

Each person could very well have various words of advice to share, but David had a concise message for Solomon. He emphasized an enduring commitment to God’s word and spoke of life as a marathon race.  In other words, align with God’s will during each sprint and then recover by doing better each day.

What does it look like to follow David’s recommendation? Relying on God can be like depending on a GPS for instruction. First, be willing to surrender and turn on the GPS. Dial into WWJD with your efforts to proceed.  As always during your travels, you will miss a turn or overshoot an intersection. Your destination may sometimes be programmed incorrectly, but whenever necessary, the GPS will recalculate your journey. Eventually, by continuing in the right direction you arrive at the finish line while building the Kingdom of God along the way.

Without this GPS, life can be random.  It can amount to little.  What is the basis of life without the Trinity? Times of trouble need the Great Comforter, Jesus.  Times of weakness need the Holy Spirit. Times of confusion need God’s Word.  We must stay the course.  There is only One who knows the way and He will guide us if we ask.  How do we ask?  We worship Him. We praise Him. And we turn to Him because He remains the Ancient of Days throughout the ages.
