The Glory of God
By David Thompson
A few weeks ago at Mill Run, Kelsey Bacon did a children's message using a measuring cup, a tape measure, and the sky to try to measure God's love. Nothing worked to do that, and the same is true of the glory of God. It is boundless and it is impossible to quantify. However it is true in both areas, His love for us, and His glory or faithfulness. They are boundless.
So, as we read the passage we see Paul speaking to the group of Corinthians that contained a number of accusers saying Paul wavered in his missionary trip. Paul wanted to address this and assure the crowd that God has a plan for everyone. Paul tells them that his change in plans was instituted by God and that whatever God says is "Yes," not "No."
The same is true with our relationship to God. The Internet definition for "faithful" is "remaining loyal and steadfast." We can be 100% assured that God is faithful. No matter what the situation is or who the people involved, God with be true, devoted and unwavering to each and everyone of His children. Then the passage continues that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, is not "Yes and No." But always yes. This means that whatever Jesus promises will come true. I am told that nothing in the Bible that was promised in the Old and New Testament has been proven false or not done the way it was promised. So promises like "He will never leave us nor forsake us," "He will hold me fast," or "All things work together for good for those that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose" can not come true. Once again I am told that there are more than 7,000 of these promises in the Bible. Those promises have already been fulfilled or will be fulfilled as written. What assurance we have that no matter what comes about God and Jesus are true to their words and will sustain you in all matters.
PRAYER PRACTICE
Lectio – Read today’s passage through once. Then spend some time praying and asking God to show you what you need to pay attention to in the text. Read it again. Now ask God to help you see what this text, and the part that has stood out, may mean for you. Don’t expect to get a clear word every time but always be ready to really hear from God through His Word.
