1 Corinthians 15:42-49

"So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body." (1 Corinthians 15:42-44)

For anyone who has ever experienced the death of a loved one, a Believer, these words bring comfort.  For anyone who has ever watched someone they loved die from cancer or another terrible disease, find peace in the words above. I did, and I still do today.  

God has promised us a new body, a Resurrection body that is perfect and more than we could ever hope for or dream about.  That is beyond comprehension, isn’t it?  To think that one day we will be resurrected into eternity, new and without flaw and we will never perish again, we will never sin again, we will never die again.  Whew, it makes all we endure worthwhile.

Now, I feel the most important goal in this life time is to get to heaven and to bring as many people with me as I can.  Are you feeling that way too?

And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man. (1 Corinthians 15:49)

Your Body is So Heavenly ;) 1 Corinthians 15:42-49

Our passages over the past few days have given us a pretty cool look into what life will be like in heaven. Yesterday my mom shared with you some of the conversations her and my dad had concerning what we will look like in heaven. Today’s passage tells us why we will have a different body.

Our passage says, “Everyone on earth has a body like the body of the one who was made from the dust of the earth.” This of course is Adam. We remember that along with Adam and everything else that was created, our bodies will age and deteriorate. We have an expiration date.

The passage continues by saying, “And everyone in heaven has a body like the body of the one who came from heaven…we will be like the one who came from heaven.” The one who came from heaven is obviously Jesus.

That is so cool. I love it when the Bible doesn’t just teach us about today; I get excited when I get glimpses into what God has planned for our future. I find myself resting a bit easier knowing that God, the Alpha and Omega, has this all planned out.

Will We Recognize One Another? 1 Corinthians 15:29-41

One of the conversations Dave and I had, more than once during his illness, was about what happens when you die.  We talked about how Jesus is waiting for us and will take charge from the moment we leave this life.  I had the fun of reminding my husband that he was soon to be the recipient of a new body.  This vessel that had been giving him such trouble the last few weeks would soon be unrecognizable.

That comforted him, but it also disturbed him as he asked, “How will you know me when you get here?”  What a question!  I never really gave it any thought before that moment.  How will we know our loved ones?  I told him that I didn’t really know the answer to that question but was confident God had all of that under control.

The scripture for today confirms that answer for me, and the verse below echoes Dave’s question to me. 

 “But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" (1 Corinthians 15:35)
 

Paul teaches, we will still have our own personalities and individualities, but these will be perfected through Christ's work. Our resurrected bodies will be very different in some ways, but not all, from our earthly bodies. (Life Application Study Bible)
