John 14:1-10

JESUS IS GOD’S TRUTH
As Jesus comforts his disciples he begins like this: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” Later in their encounter as Jesus is telling them about how to get to heaven and that He will prepare a place for them, He adds another line we have heard before, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

They question him again and again, and He always has a calm, perfect reply. Looking for clarity, Phillip inquires, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Their confusion is genuine. After all, Jesus has been referring to God as separate from Him. If they can’t get to the Father except through Jesus, and if they should trust in God, and also in Jesus, it’s understandable that they are puzzled when Jesus states, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” And “I am in the Father, and the Father is in me.”

These are tough concepts for us to understand as modern day disciples as well. Though we have this amazing book telling us the complete story, and His wondrous creations all around us, our human minds cannot truly comprehend the oneness of God the Father and God the Son. We must simply trust. Later in John, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit, to complete the explanation of the trinity. Jesus assured his disciples as he also reminds us, “…..another Counselor to be with you forever.” The Holy Spirit IS with us....always!
