Psalm 148

How do we praise God?  I'm not talking about Saturday evening or Sunday morning when we come together as a Body of Believers and experience a time of praise and worship, I'm taking about the other 6 days of the week.  It is easy, even fun, to praise while in the company of others who believe as you do; others who also enjoy coming together in this fashion.  But, how does one praise God at work, play, in the world?

Praise: The act of expressing approval or admiration, the offering of grateful homage in words or song, the state of being approved or admired.  Praise is a noun and a verb.

Let them praise the name of the LORD, for at his command they were created,
and he established them for ever and ever—
he issued a decree that will never pass away. (Psalm 148:5-6)

  • Praising can be automatic, when we sing worship songs and the music transports us to a different place, when we feel a strong connection to God and our voices echo the overwhelming feeling in our hearts - that is Praising God.
  • Visiting residents in a nursing home, sitting with them and reading or just talking - that is Praising God
  • While in line at the grocery store we witness a customer losing patience with the store clerk over something they had no control, then when it is your turn you smile and offer a nod of understanding - that is Praising God
  • A co-worker's child is hospitalized and you take on the care of the other children so mom and dad can be at the sick child's bedside - that is Praising God.
How do you Praise God outside of the church setting?  He is worthy of our praise.
