Joshua 6:1-5, 15-20

Sometimes what the Lord wants of us may seem unreasonable, perhaps even foolish or impossible: “Forgive seven times seventy times.” No matter what?
“Love thy enemy.” Regardless of what they have done?
“Turn the other cheek.” So we can be slapped again and again?
Being Christ followers is no cake walk. Our expectations are not only difficult, but 24-7. The thing is if we follow His commands even if we do not always understand why, God will come through for us. We can count on that!

Joshua and the Israelites were directed by God to do what must have seemed quite unusual. They reached Jericho, and it was tightly sealed because of their presence. Surrounded by a huge wall, nothing was going to get inside. Their patience must have been wearing thin, as they were told to drag this thing out over seven days. “March around the city once with all your armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in.” Those inside the wall were totally unaware of God's power.

They followed the Lord’s command, and as “the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed.” God’s promise was fulfilled, as it had been many times before and continues today. I pray that each one of us will seek the strength we need to carry out the will of our God through prayer and reflection on His word. We cannot go it alone. We require His strength and wisdom to break down our walls, and forge ahead to conquer our own Jericho.
Knock, knock the door will open.
Seek and you will find.
Ask you will receive
from the maker of mankind.
