The Story - Chapter 24 - No Ordinary Man

Matthew 9:4 (NIV)
"Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?"

If this verse doesn't stop you dead in your tracks something is wrong.  How many times have we confessed to God, only to omit part of the story. We often keep the worst part, our guiltiest actions, hidden from Him.  What are we thinking?  Do we actually believe God doesn't already know all the gore details?

The teachers of the law were watching Jesus and listening to His conversations.  They were thinking and talking to themselves; not out loud, when Jesus confronted their thoughts.  I wonder what was going on in their minds once they realized they hadn't said those things out loud, but Jesus knew their thoughts.

That probably gave them more reason to want Him gone--out of their lives for good.  He was too dangerous to have around.  What does this realization mean to us?  Is it comforting to know that God knows everything that involves us?  Is it easier to confess our sins when we know Jesus is aware of our bad behaviors, our addictive habits?

The truth is, God loves us unconditionally.  There is nothing we can do to make Him love us less, and there is nothing we can do to make Him love us more.
