The Story - Chapter 24 - No Ordinary Man

What makes you afraid?  If the lights go out in an electrical storm do you tremble with fear?  Are you afraid of large crowds, does the thought of a visit to the dentist cause you to break out in a cold sweat?

This world we live in is a scary place for sure. It always has been since we were cast out of Paradise.   But, we are told not to be afraid.  How can we not? Is there a secret to bravery?  Is there a recipe for courage?

Matthew 14:27 (NIV)
"But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."

One night, after Jesus had spent some time alone on shore, he decided to join His disciples who were out in the lake on their boat.  Jesus began to walk toward them and when He was spotted, the men became frightened asking if it were a ghost coming toward them.  Jesus words to them, Don't be afraid," are words we can also grab hold of.  When Jesus is walking toward us we can hear those same words.

An encounter with Jesus should bring us peace and joy. To be summoned to His side as Peter was that storming evening, is cause for obedience.

Matthew 14:29 (NIV)
"Come," he said."

Each day, when we wake up and turn to Jesus with either a brief prayer or a few minutes of quiet devotion, if we listen very closely we will hear the word, "Come". This will be the start of a perfect day, a day without fear and filled with confidence and courage.
