Acts 16:15 (NIV)
When she
and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If
you consider me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house."
And she persuaded us.
Lydia was anxious to show hospitality to Paul and Silas. Like many new Christians, then and now, once the fire is lit we want to stoke the flames. We want to spend time in the glow and warmth of this new life in Christ.
Lydia laid out the welcome mat for the pair. Can you imagine the conversations that took place over a meal? Can't you hear all the questions asked and the answers given? New Believers have a hunger for more. There is an excitement and an enthusiasm for more information. This must have been a great time for Paul and Silas; it must have encouraged them to keep on preaching the Good News to all who would listen.
How would you respond to a brand new Christian who has so many questions? We don't have to have all the answers, we only need to sit down with them, open the Bible and dig in. The Holy Spirit will do the rest.
