We see God in little things, like the sunset or a baby's smile. We feel Him in the midst of redemption and peace. We search for Him in places like church, or in the wisdom of a friend. We doubt Him in sorrow, worship Him in joy, acknowledge Him in accomplishment, and question Him in uncertainty. We limit God to our boxes. We see Him with our own personal perspective based on our current life state, and label Him with an identity that may not necessarily be true to who He is.
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.
Acts 17:24-25
Lately, I find myself stripping God of His rightful place in my life, and putting Him into a box where He doesn't belong. He is the one who made the world and everything in it. He is the Lord of Heaven and Earth. He isn't confined to anything made by us. He needs nothing from us. He is the giver of life and breath. The questions and doubts can still remain sometimes though, can't they? Yet they don't suppress God; just our ability to see Him for who He truly is.
From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being.
Acts 17:26-28
There is so much comfort in the truths of Scripture. If we are truly living in our appointed time in history, then God was very purposeful in our conception and birth. We are specifically placed in our families and homes, states and countries. It is not coincidence or accident that we are where we are, and even our pain isn't without purpose. "God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being." That speaks of great intimacy and careful thought on God's part. Let's be reminded that God is not limited by our perception of Him. He is not suppressed by our doubts. He was intentional in our making, and is intentional in our becoming. May be seek Him, reach out for Him, and find Him this week.
