For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you have been rebellious against the Lord while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die!
That is really a great question. Moses sounds so disappointed in his people, after all they had been through together, after all the suffering and pain they experienced. After all they had learned about God and His faithfulness, Moses as leader knew he couldn't count on the Israelites to remain true to God.
Moses knew that the Israelites were rebellious at heart. They deserved God's punishment, although they often received his mercy instead. We, too, are stubborn and rebellious by nature. Throughout our lives we struggle with sin. Repentance once a month or once a week is not enough. We must constantly turn from our sins to God and let him, in his mercy, save us.
Many a parent, who discovered their child misbehaving has said to the offenders, "You know better than that. We've been through this before, and as soon as my back is turned, you are at it again." I am sure God thinks this same thing of us and that is why He sent His Son. God knew His people over the ages, would rebel over and over again.
We still do this today. I still do this today. I know better, I've been down this road before, but still I weaken and fail Him. I mess up every day, but now, I recognize it early on, and can stop in my tracks. I have learned there are consequences, and they are not fun. Because of these consequences I am learning to change,

Tomorrow and so much more
It is helpful to read a variety of author's views on the same topic. We often discover fresh new ways to view the same familiar concepts. It helps us to see there is more than one viewpoint to the same subject. There is more than one interpretation for an identical statement. The way we perceive something has so much to do with where we are in life today, at this very moment.
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. (Hebrews 14:16 NIV)
When I read the NIV version above, it is concise and to the point. Don't forget to do good and share with others. Those are words my 'youthful' ears would hear my mother or grandmother voice, as I to go out and play. They are reminding me to remember what I have been taught about playing nice with others.
Make sure you don’t take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship—a different kind of “sacrifice”—that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets. (Hebrews 14:16 MSG)
The Message version tells me more; as I am now an adult and want answers to my question, "Why? What does it matter?" I understand my actions will have consequences, and my attitude will often drive these actions.

Consequences… Nobody Likes Them
The Second Death
Consequences… nobody likes them
Following our most recent game, we discovered a parking ticket on our windshield. I was irate to say the least. For years we had parked in the same spot, along with other fans, and never got a ticket. My wife has bad knees, and this is the closest parking location not requiring a handicap sticker. On top of all this, it was 10pm on a Saturday night. How many OSU staff do you think were looking for a parking spot at that time?
My NIV Study Bible has two sub-titles for this passage in Revelation, both involving severe consequences.
“The Judgement of Satan”
10 “And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” NASB
“The Judgement of the Dead”
13 “The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” NIV

Live and Learn
They realized the importance of obeying God and loving him from the heart, not out of habit. They knew the previous 70 years of captivity were a result of their rebellious ways. They came to see their selfish and sinful hearts did not benefit them.
The returning Jews built an altar as one of their first official acts; symbolizing God's presence and protection. They did this before the new temple had been constructed.
Ezra 3:6 (NIV)
On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, though the foundation of the LORD's temple had not yet been laid.
Think of a lesson you learned the hard way. Were there consequences even though you really did learn a lesson? Probably. Were they fun to go through? No way! A lesson learned is time well spent even if there were penalties involved.
We all learn from our mistakes, which is one reasons we allow our children some freedom as they venture through life. We know they will not always do everything just right, but they will learn and grow from the experiences you allow them to have.
All the time the Israelite people were in captivity, God loved them. When we are feeling the brunt of our actions and weeding our way though whatever punishment doled out, God loves us too. But He loves us too much to let us stay the way we are.

Joel 2:18-27
I find myself searching God's Word for answers every day. I am so conflicted during this season of grieving, that I can't seem to make a decision; at least not one I will move forward on without changing my mind a dozen times. I am learning that God wants me to be searching His Word every day. He desires that I come to Him with my problems and my pain.
Was there a time when you felt as if God didn't care or that He had left you hanging? I am finding the Book of Joel to be filled with God's promises to always be there for us, no matter how we feel; to always take care of us no matter what situation is causing us pain. God is faithful to forgive, heal, love and protect even when we have not acted in a manner deserving of this treatment.
Joel's assignment from God was to tell the people God wasn't going to put up with their behavior for long, and their behavior had consequences. Joel also told the people about repentance, about forgiveness and about God's faithfulness and His compassion. The last segment of Chapter two we find God answering the people and promising health, happiness, security and live everlasting, upon their turning to Him.
As for me and you, take comfort; Truly, God will make all things right.

Abram to Egypt; parts from Lot - Genesis 13:1-18
Life is filled with opportunities and choices. Have you ever regretted a decision you made? It is so easy to spout off the top of your head, a decision. Choosing to decide without weighing the consequences can lead to regret and pain. The saying, "Let's sleep on it," is a wise thought. How often I change my mind after having opportunity to pray about something. It is during this prayer process that I think things through thoroughly, weighing the ups and the downs.
When Abram and Lot decided to go their separate ways, Lot looked around and saw where the most promising and well-watered land existed and chose to move there. He took the best share of the land even though it meant living near Sodom. Life is filled with choices and at times our choices bear spiritual consequences.
Abram settled in Canaan and God blessed his choice. “for all the land which you see I will give you and your descendants forever.” (Genesis 13:15)
