Covenant Confirmed - Genesis 15

Abram believed and trusted God. He took Him at His word. He hung onto His promise. This can be said about faith and living by faith today; believing God will do what He says He will do.

At times we may get stressed from lack of understanding when God takes His time to act on things. But we realize in His perfect will, He knows the right time to act.

In today’s reading we note that Abram is stressed and God reassures him by confirming His promise. The promise of a child or many children to Abram has not been completed. The same is true about the possession of land. He just doesn't see and understand God’s plan. Basically Abram has to trust God to fulfill His promise even long after Abram is dead.

The message seems to be that God is repeating His promise to test or prove Abram's faith. God is working in Abram's life. What really matters is Abram believes and trusts God when He speaks. He can’t see God, but he believes Him. It is all about faith alone!

God is looking today for hearts that are willing to believe, trust and obey Him. Today I am asking myself, "Could I respond to God as Abram did?" How is your heart?

Blood Is Thicker Than Water, Genesis 14

I get a kick out of today’s passage. Two groups of allied kings fighting against each other, for fourteen years the wars rage. What are they fighting over? More than likely they fight for land, wealth, and power.

What makes me laugh is, when these unsuspecting kings raid Sodom and Gomorrah. As they seize all the goods and people Lot, Abram’s nephew, is among the captives. When Abram finds out that his flesh and blood has been taken he gathers together a little army and totally kicks butt. What the other kings couldn’t do in fourteen years Abram does in no time at all. Doesn’t that just make you chuckle?

Some have probably asked, “How did he do that?” We know how he was able to come out the victor though. We also know how he was able to, not only rescue Lot, but also every other person and thing that was taken. He did it with God.

With God absolutely EVERYTHING is possible. Do you believe that? If you struggle trusting that, tell yourself every day. When life feels hopeless or you feel alone, tell yourself. If you feel forgotten or outnumbered, remind yourself EVERYTHING is possible with God.

I’m not saying everything will work out the way we want; I am saying that nothing is too big for God. No problem to complicated or shocking. No tragedy too overwhelming. God can handle it all and he can get us through an impossible situation too.

Abram and God - Genesis 12

Do you notice when you become comfortable in life, things start to change? Abram, comfortable and successful, heard God speak and his life changed forever. God told Abram to go to a new land. God promised not only a new land, but a nation and a blessing.

“So Abram left, as the Lord had told him…” I am awed by the trust, obedience, and confident faith of Abram. Leaving his homeland and family to set out from the safe and secure to take on the incredible unknown is hard to imagine.

In today’s reading, Abram’s strong faith shows weakness. Abram lies. God rescues him, his wife, and all he brought with him. His actions seem out of place since he earlier responded without question and immediately in obedience to God.

It is obvious that Abram is human and therefore struggles with his faith. His strength to obey God, amid his failures and difficulties, is evident through the desire and courage found in his heart.

Abram's story reminds us that faith grows through encounters with the incredible patience and grace of God. When we choose to make trust and obedience the desire of our hearts, God works through any troubles, obstacles, and temptations to bless us by strengthening our faith.
